From the many types of lodgings at the Poring Hot Springs and Nature Reserve, two units stand out. They are the Palm Villas, nestled right beside a lowland rainforest. Each 2-storey villa houses three bedrooms, with one kitchen and a spacious and tastefully furnished living room, the epitome of a home away from home.
Among the many activities within the park reserve, the natural hot springs and the Poring Canopy Walkway (at 41m high) are the most popular. The Orchid Conservation Centre and Butterfly Farm play host to species endemic to Sabah, a sure haven for nature enthusiasts. Young children are especially drawn to the kaleidoscope of colourful butterflies within its enclosure.
From the Poring Hot Springs and Nature Reserve, we made our way to Kinabalu Park, Malaysia’s first World Heritage site, another destination managed by Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, where a completely different experience beckons.
